I Say Hello: A Social Story Book for School Readiness and Interactive Reading

This is a resource designed to support interactive reading and foster communication and language skills of children who need special support.

We’re excited to introduce a brand-new resource: I Say Hello, a Talkido-compatible social story book specially designed for autistic and neurodivergent children. With a warm, supportive story, simple language, and colorful visuals, this book helps children build essential social skills in a fun and accessible way.

I Say Hello was created to be used with evidence-backed, shared book reading techniques. You can easily personalize the story content based on your child’s interests, attention span, and communication level. The book has small dots as guides to place Talkido Tags and start using it right away.

What is High-Quality Shared Book Reading?

Shared book reading is a method that encourages back-and-forth interaction between a child and an adult. It turns storytime into a meaningful conversation and supports the child’s discovery of new information with adult guidance.

I Say Hello is designed with this approach in mind: simple, flexible, and ideal for sparking interaction, adding questions, or tailoring to your child’s goals.

Interactive learning means your child isn’t just listening passively, they’re actively participating.

This book is developed by Ayshe Cetin, a Visual Communication Design student at Istanbul Medipol University with collaboration of the Talkido team. It is field-tested with special educators and therapists to ensure it meets the real needs of children and professionals. And, it’s fully compatible with the Talkido system.

We extend heartfelt thanks to Speech Disorders Specialist Feyza Çabuk Yerli, Speech and Language Therapist Rumeysa Gedik, Behavior Therapist Hümeyra Turan, as well as the dedicated therapists from BAYEM Special Education and Rehabilitation Center and Dragos Counseling and Development Center for their contributions and field support.

How to Use This Social Story Book with Talkido?

We made it easy for you to put Talkido Tags on pages of the book!

  • •Print the book on any home printer.
  • •Stick Talkido DIY Tags on the red dots throughout the pages.
  • •Record audio for each tag—this can be a full sentence from the page, a simplified version, a target word, or a reinforcement question.
  • •When recording, keep your child’s language level in mind and avoid long or complex sentences.

When introducing the book to your child, model how to tap the Talkido Tags with the Talkido Mio device first and help your child physically if needed. Explore the book together and enjoy its colorful, engaging world.
