The user background

The Denver Public Schools serves for students from preschool to high school. The SLPs integrated the Talkido into speech/language sessions with early childhood education (ECE) students to support communication and engagement.

Challenge

The ECE students with challenges of identification, discrimination and practicing on speech production.The SLPs looked for a way to aid the areas as follow:

Vocabulary expansion

Functional communication

Encourage interactions and requesting

How was Talkido implemented?

The student requests a 'hat' to participate in birthday 'pin the hat on the smiley' cotreat activity and used the Talkido Mio to interact in the activity. She uses the Mio to show her physical and emotional reactions and feelings.

The Talkido system is integrated on froggy clothing dressing Occupation Therapy cotreat activity.

Outcomes

Engaging Interaction

The novelty of the product boosts interaction levels.

Providing Consistent Language Models

The Play Sets engaged the student while improving common item vocabulary.

Interactive Modeling of Requesting with Talkido

It is so easy to program a Talkido Mio for an activity or make changes quickly in sessions with students in case you need to. I notice them attempting to imitate words more because they are getting those consistent models from the Talkido.

Sound Production and Attempts Words with Talkido

The DIY cards and tags are durable way of creating mystery out of them to support students. It is also useful tool for non-verbals. Auditory cues, prompts, and targets using the Talkido cards seem to support the students I have with emerging articulation skills.
